Jan Bobor
Hon. Fellow

Jan Bobor is Slovak, born in Czechoslovakia during the communist era when access to historical archives was limited, and mentions of nobility were restricted for propaganda purposes. Despite this environment, his family motivated young Jan to develop a passion for real history. After the fall of communism and the peaceful split of Czechoslovakia, Jan completed high school, specialising in handmade musical instruments like violas and acoustic guitars, which combined his interests in music and history.
Jan later moved to the Netherlands to study e-commerce and automation in logistics. He currently supervises research and development in SMD technology. Technology has paradoxically enabled him to research his family history, revealing his connection to the Lairds of Hajnik, a small noble family from the medieval Hungarian Kingdom, now Slovakia. In Slovak and Hungarian archives, items related to his noble ancestors in silography and heraldry were found, leading to the creation of his own arms, inspired by family heraldry. These arms were granted by the Slovak Heraldry College and received from Slovak Herald Ladislav Vrtel, sparking support from the international heraldic community.
Over the years, Jan has built a collection of over 100 heraldic artists, with 80 creating full achievements of his arms, including about 35 hand-painted pieces. His collection includes both top-tier and emerging heraldic talents. Jan is currently working on a book detailing his family history and revealing his complete personal armorial. However, he is recognized among heraldic experts and aims to support heraldic artists and organizations to ensure the survival of heraldry from extinction.
