The Heraldic Institute e.V. is greatly honoured to enjoy the patronage of His Imperial and Royal Highness Archduke Casimir Salvator of Austria, Prince Imperial of Austria, Royal Prince of Bohemia and Hungary, Prince of Tuscany, Prince of Croatia.

Archduke Casimir is the son of Archduke Andreas Salvator of Austria and Countess Valerie of Podstatzky-Lichtenstein. Through his descent, he belongs to one of the most historically significant dynasties of Europe, whose influence extended over many centuries across the lands of the former Holy Roman Empire, including Austria, Bohemia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Low Countries, and Spain. The influence extended even further at times, including parts of America. The heraldic traditions of these regions were deeply shaped by the political, artistic, and ceremonial culture fostered under the Habsburgs.

His Imperial and Royal Highness has shown a genuine personal interest in heraldry and in traditional craftsmanship, especially through the design and carving of heraldic motifs in wood. This active engagement with armorial art gives his patronage a particular significance for an institute devoted not only to heraldic scholarship, but also to heraldry as a living artistic and cultural tradition.

For The Heraldic Institute, whose work embraces heraldic traditions from across Europe and beyond, the patronage of Archduke Casimir Salvator is especially fitting. It reflects the Institute’s commitment to the serious study of heraldry in its historical, artistic, and international dimensions. We are privileged to be one of only a handful of heraldic associations with direct royal patronage. The connection seems extremely fitting since our registered offices are in the city of Endingen, Germany, which received many rights and privileges in the 400 years it was under direct Habsburg rule 1379–1805.

The Institute records its sincere gratitude to Dr Alfonso Marqués de la Floresta (Chronicler of Arms of Castile and León), Fellow, whose good offices helped to establish this valued connection with the House of Habsburg-Lorraine.
